Since the 1960s, both the number of days with fresh snow and the number of days with snow cover have decreased at most weather stations in Switzerland. The increasingly warmer winters due to climate change have contributed to this. The higher winter temperatures mean that the snow line is getting higher. This has a major impact on winter sports areas, especially in the foothills of the Alps and at medium altitudes. The snow line will continue to rise in future.
