MeteoSwiss expressly reserves the right to fully or partially amend or delete published content at any time without prior notification, or to take it offline for a period of time.
Any guarantee and liability on the part of MeteoSwiss is excluded to the extent permitted by law. This applies in particular to liability for material or immaterial damage resulting from access to or use or non-use of published information, from interference by unauthorised third parties, from misuse or excessive use, or from technical faults.
References and links
References and links to third-party websites lie outside the scope of responsibility of MeteoSwiss. Access to and use of such websites is at the user’s own risk. MeteoSwiss expressly states that it has no influence whatsoever over the design, content and offers of any linked sites. Responsibility for information and services of linked websites rests entirely with the respective third parties.
All responsibility and liability is declined for the content or use of such websites.
Copyright and terms of use
The copyright and all other rights to this website and the MeteoSwiss app and their respective content, including photos, graphics, videos, text and designs (the “content”), are the sole property of MeteoSwiss or specifically named rights holders. The following provisions about the ”crowdsourcing” function in the MeteoSwiss app and about the content of such reports remain reserved.
No rights are transferred by downloading or copying content, images, photos or other content.
Any information of MeteoSwiss, particularly of meteorological and climatological data, may only be reproduced and redistributed if the source is acknowledged (Source: MeteoSwiss).
Warnings may only be reproduced and redistributed if this is done promptly and the content is not altered.
Login details for accessing services must not be shared with third parties and must be protected against misuse
The infrastructure used by MeteoSwiss to provide services may only be used to the extent necessary to make use of these services; the following are prohibited: (1) any misuse, particularly any use that is intended to damage the infrastructure or block its availability, and (2) any excessive use in terms of access frequency or data volume, particularly the high-frequency downloading of the same content. It is expressly forbidden to download or process data from the MeteoSwiss website using bots (web crawlers) or other automated methods.
Meteo reports (crowdsourcing)
Users of the MeteoSwiss app can submit location-based reports on the weather and its effects, including an optional photo of the relevant weather phenomenon (crowdsourcing). The crowdsourcing functions, such as submission and display of weather reports by the public, are only available after an “opt-in” (explicit consent) and confirmation of these terms of use. A random reporting app token is generated on the user’s device and transmitted with each report. Reports are transmitted anonymously, so that MeteoSwiss cannot identify the users.
By submitting a weather report, users confirm that their report contains no personal data (particularly photos of people, vehicle licence plates, names, addresses, etc.) or illegal or inappropriate content (such as pornographic, defamatory, racist or offensive content) (“prohibited content”).
The users further confirm that they own all copyright and usage rights to the content of the report and grant MeteoSwiss all transferable rights to the content without temporal or geographical restrictions. In particular, this transfer of rights allows MeteoSwiss to permanently use, reproduce, publish and modify report content, or share it with third parties, in any form to fulfil its legal duties. Given that the authorship of such reports is unknown, publication of the content such reports by MeteoSwiss on its distribution channels includes the following source citation: “Meteo reports, MeteoSwiss App”.
In the event of violations of these terms of use, MeteoSwiss reserves the right to permanently disable the crowdsourcing function.
Meteorological and climatological data and information
MeteoSwiss provides a wide range of meteorological and climatological data and information. Certain services are free of fees (for example: meteorological and climatological data and information on the MeteoSwiss app and website, Open Government Data, Natural Hazards Portal). Others services are subject to fees or costs. The use of services subject to fees and services on non-public channels of supply requires authorisation from MeteoSwiss.
The fees and terms of use are based on the Ordinance on Meteorology and Climatology (MetO, SR 429.11). For the extent of an authorisation, the General Terms and Conditions and any supplementary contractual provisions apply.
