Hazards

Precise and timely weather warnings serve to protect the population. MeteoSwiss monitors the meteorological hazard situation on behalf of the Federal Government. When forecasts predict that specific threshold values will be reached, e.g. for precipitation or wind strength, meteorologists issue warnings to the authorities and the public.

Warnings are issued on a five-point scale. MeteoSwiss issues warnings of meteorological phenomena with a danger-level rating of 2 (moderate danger) or more. From danger level 4 (high danger), radio and television stations may be required to broadcast the warnings. The MeteoSwiss app sends automatic warnings to its subscribers.
