The die is cast! At the end of 2009 the Federal Council decided on the cornerstones for a reform of MeteoSwiss. On the one hand, in its role as National Weather and Climate Service, MeteoSwiss is to supply the basis for protecting the Swiss public against weather and climate risks and provide the information required for adapting to climate change. On the other hand, as a client-oriented enterprise, it is to give valuable support to the national economy. In order to grant MeteoSwiss the necessary scope, our Federal Office shall be released into the Third Circle of the Federal Administration and obtain the status of separate legal entity.
