The maps of normal values show the long-time monthly and annual averages for the temperatures, precipitation and hours of sunshine in Switzerland. The two normal periods from 1961-1990 and 1981-2010 as well as their differences are illustrated. The spatial illustration is based on a 2 km grid point data set, calculated using all available measurements from ground-based measuring stations.

Average annual temperature, 1981 to 2010
This map shows the average annual mean temperature for the period from 1981-2010 for every location in Switzerland. For example, this value was close to 9 °C in Zurich, and close to -8 °C on top of the Jungfraujoch Mountain. It is impossible to achieve an area-wide temperature measurement with measuring stations. The area-wide distribution was therefore interpolated using the temperatures measured at the stations.
Spatial Climate Analyses
The analysis is based on spatial climate analyses (grid spacing 2 kilometres), which are calculated from measurements at surface stations. The analyses can be obtained from MeteoSwiss in different temporal and spatial resolutions, depending on the parameter.
