  • Beginning of the event: 22 September 1993
  • End of the event: 25 September 1993
  • Duration of the event: 4 days

Affected regions: the Upper Valais (Brig, southern slope of the Simplon massif, Saastal, Mattertal) and Ticino (around Lake Maggiore and in the north of Ticino).

Note: in Ticino this event marked the beginning of a very wet period which lasted until mid-October. The entire rainy period, rather than this sole event, is responsible for the floods that occurred in that period (FOEN, 1994).
