The COSMO General Meeting takes place from Monday, September 1 to Friday, September 5, 2025. The schedule overview and the timetable of the parallel session is available here.
The events take place in the following rooms:
The POL-DACH meetings are the main platform to coordinate the pollen development activities in the COSMO consortium. DWD, KIT, Geosphere and MeteoSwiss will take part in this meeting but other COSMO GM participants are invited to join. The past performance of the operational implementations of ICON-ART is reviewed and discussed. Based on this, development needs are defined. In addition, any idea/issue that needs coordination can be brought up by the participants.
The COSMO GM excursion is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd. You will have the chance to explore the beautiful city of Basel on selected topical guided walking tours that will introduce you to interesting facts, surprising stories and adventurous anecdotes about Basel.
We have preselected the following options for you and you can choose to join one of these tours:
All three guided tours start at the Münsterplatz and last for 1.5 hours.
We will offer a joint walk from the University of Basel (where the COSMO GM takes place) to the Münsterplatz starting at 2:45 PM.
After the tours there is an option for you to join us on the walk to our dinner venue. We will take the ferry “Vogel Gryff” to the opposite shore of the river Rhine. We will then walk along the riverside to the Restaurant Turbinenhaus / Aktienmühle, where the Conference Dinner takes place.
All roads lead to Münsterplatz. You can either take the public transport to “Schifflände”, “Marktplatz”, “Barfüsserplatz”, “Bankverein” or “Kunstmuseum”. From all of the stations you then have to walk up for another 5 minutes.
The Conference Dinner will take place at the Restaurant Turbinenhaus / Aktienmühle in Basel on September 3rd, 2025 at 6 PM. It is located at Gärtnerstrasse 46, 4057 Basel in Basel’s Klybeck district.
The industrial look of the restaurant combined with its beautiful courtyard creates a perfect setting for a cozy dinner. The appearance of the Aktienmühle reflects the building’s original use. It was founded by Wilhelm Abt-Bader in 1894 and became one of the largest mills in Switzerland. The dining hall was originally the turbine house of the mill and was used to generate electricity for the mill’s operation. For more information on the history of the Aktienmühle, visit the website History of the Aktienmühle.
Take tram number 8 (for example from the stop “Marktplatz”) to the stop “Wiesenplatz”. Then, walk towards Gärtnerstrasse 46, 4057 Basel. You should reach the Restaurant Aktienmühle within 5 minutes.
Basel is a beautiful city in the northwest of Switzerland located at the river Rhine. It is famous for its many museums and is to be considered the cultural capital of Switzerland. Basel is home to the oldest University in Switzerland (where the COSMO General Meeting takes place), founded in 1460. The city with its rich history offers a wide range of attractions and can be explored on foot or by public transport.
Switzerland has safe public transport, with frequent connections all around the country. The local public transport company in Basel is called BVB. You can buy tickets at every bus stop or buy them online using the BVB-app. The national public transport company is SBB. They also provide an app, where you can look up time tables and buy tickets for both national and local transport.
In addition to tap water, which is drinkable everywhere in Switzerland, you can also drink the fountain water – unless otherwise indicated.
If you are interested in sightseeing, the tourist center’s website offers all the information you need to explore Basel.
If you arrive at the train station Basel SBB, don’t miss the chance to try the coffee at Kaffeemacher.
