Copyright and rights of use
The copyright and all other rights to this website and its contents such as photos, graphics, video material, texts and designs ("contents") are the sole property of the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss or of specially named rights holders.
The content published by MeteoSwiss on this website and in apps – with the exception of the small warning map – may only be used for personal purposes. Any further reproduction and passing on of content to third parties is prohibited. Downloading or copying content, images, photos or other content does not transfer any rights.
It is not permitted to use services provided electronically by MeteoSwiss in a way likely to impair, overload or damage the infrastructure of MeteoSwiss or impair other users in their use of the MeteoSwiss website or apps. In particular, it is expressly prohibited to download or process data from the MeteoSwiss website using web robots (crawlers) or other automated processes.
Meteo reports (crowdsourcing)
Users of the MeteoSwiss app can actively submit reports on weather and effects for their current location or phenomena previously observed at other locations. All crowdsourcing functions such as submitting and displaying reports are only possible after "opt-in" (explicit consent) - including confirmation of the terms of use. A random detector app token is generated on the user's device and transmitted with messages.
Users can enter weather reports via a predefined mask and additional free text (as a message to MeteoSwiss) in the app, as well as upload photos (especially to illustrate impacts). The reporting data itself is collected anonymously. In line with the technical framework of the MeteoSwiss app, cloud services from AWS are used to process and temporarily store the data.
Meteo reports are displayed on MeteoSwiss' own distribution channels and also in other systems of MeteoSwiss, other federal offices and other national weather services, in particular for use in the forecast service and for users from the disaster control sector. The uploaded content may be used by MeteoSwiss for any purpose, in particular also for forwarding to other federal offices and weather services and for transfer to international meteorological databases (e.g. European Severe Weather Database ESWD). MeteoSwiss may make uploaded content available to third parties and specify conditions and restrictions for this.
Uploaded user reports are archived by MeteoSwiss on a long-term basis.
In the event of violations of the terms of use, MeteoSwiss reserves the right to permanently block the "Meteo reports" function.
