Liability and warranty

MeteoSwiss expressly reserves the right to alter or delete content, in full or in part, at any time without prior notification, or to take it offline temporarily. Nor does MeteoSwiss warrant that this website is free of viruses or other harmful software (malware).

Liability claims against MeteoSwiss for material or immaterial damage arising from access to, use or non-use of the published information, misuse of the connection, technical faults or intervention by unauthorised third parties are excluded to the extent permitted by law.

References and links

References and links to third-party websites lie outside the scope of responsibility of MeteoSwiss. Access to and use of such websites is at the user's own risk. MeteoSwiss expressly states that it has no influence whatsoever over the design, content and offers of any linked sites. Responsibility for information and services of linked websites rests entirely with the respective third parties.

No responsibility can be accepted for the content or use of such websites.

Copyright and usage rights

The copyright and all other rights to this website, the MeteoSwiss app and their respective content, including photos, graphics, videos, text and designs (the "content"), are owned solely by the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss ("MeteoSwiss") or specifically named rights holders. The following provisions concerning the crowdsourced weather reports ("Meteo Meldungen") function in the MeteoSwiss app and its report content remain applicable.

All content published by MeteoSwiss on this website and in the MeteoSwiss app – except for the small warning map – may only be used for personal use. Beyond this, any reproduction or distribution of the content to third parties is prohibited. Downloading or copying of content, images, photos or other materials does not transfer any rights.

The use of electronically provided services from MeteoSwiss in a way that could impair, overload or damage MeteoSwiss's infrastructure or affect other users' use of the MeteoSwiss website or apps is prohibited. In particular, it is expressly forbidden to download or process data from the MeteoSwiss website using bots (web crawlers) or other automated methods.

Crowdsourced weather reports (Meteo Meldungen)

Users of the MeteoSwiss app can submit location-based reports on the weather and its effects, including an optional photo of the relevant weather phenomenon (Meteo Meldungen). The crowdsourcing functions, such as submission and display of weather reports by the public, are only available after an "opt-in" (explicit consent) and confirmation of these terms of use. A random reporting app token is generated on the user's device and transmitted with each report. Reports are transmitted anonymously, so that MeteoSwiss cannot identify the users.

By submitting a weather report (Meteo Meldung), users confirm that their report contains no personal data (particularly photos of people, vehicle licence plates, names, addresses, etc.) or illegal or inappropriate content, such as pornographic, defamatory, racist or offensive content ("prohibited content").

They further confirm that they own all copyright and usage rights to the content of the report and grant MeteoSwiss all transferable rights to the content without temporal or geographical restrictions. In particular, this transfer of rights allows MeteoSwiss to permanently use, reproduce, publish and modify report content, or share it with third parties, in any form to fulfil its legal duties. Given that the authorship of such reports is unknown, publication of report content by MeteoSwiss on its distribution channels includes the following source citation: Meteo Meldung/App.

In the event of violations of these terms of use, MeteoSwiss reserves the right to permanently disable the Meteo Meldungen function.
