Heat is generally understood to mean the perceived discomfort as a result of excessive air temperature. High temperatures pose a risk to humans. As well as hot temperatures during the day, high night-time temperatures are also a significant factor. Even short, intense periods of heat can damage the human body. MeteoSwiss therefore warns the public when the daily mean temperature is forecast to exceed certain threshold values.
