GCOS Switzerland projects

On 6 June 2008, Switzerland's Federal Council approved long-term Swiss government funding for the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) from 2010 onwards. MeteoSwiss allocates such subsidies to third parties in the framework of GCOS, thereby supporting the rollout of the international GCOS Implementation Plan.

In the framework of GCOS Switzerland, MeteoSwiss compiles inventories of the main climate observations and international data and calibration centres in Switzerland (also see: National Climate Observing System). This involves identifying time series and centres whose operation or continued operation is at risk due to a lack of alternative funding. MeteoSwiss's core mission in the framework of GCOS Switzerland is to ensure the long-term continued operation of these centres and time series.

Furthermore, again in the framework of GCOS Switzerland, MeteoSwiss provides temporary funding to projects playing a significant role in the rollout of the GCOS Implementation Plan and the GCOS Switzerland Strategy.
